Instruction Manual for Life

Posted by Alex in Religion, Video Clips on January 9, 2009 at 2:28 pm

TheraminTrees and his brother QualiaSoup collaborated to make this interesting animation called Instruction Manual for Life. There’s an unmistakeable (truthful/heavy-handed/blasphemous? Take your pick) message in there – which you don’t have to agree with – but all I could think of when watching the clip was all those IKEA cabinets I built over the years!

Hit play or go to Link [YouTube] – Thanks Bruce!

Thank you. This video explains a lot behind the geniuses at Neatorama. Good grief. Excuse me while I go "find myself." No wait, that was the 70's. Okay, wait, but I know religion is bad...I think. Um... Okay, some religions are bad like Christianity, but not Hinduism? Isn't that right? Uh...

I loved that! What a wonderful way to show tolerance towards the differences between us all. I did not find it blasphemous in the least. My cupboard is very large and I don't mind if my friends have different drawers in theirs.

in my opinion - 'religions' aren't bad, but the people within them can be. Having a strong spiritual side, nomatter what you believe, I think is a good quality, unless, of course, that causes you to behave like a jerk and/or pyscho.

Hmm... Barring obvious immoral beliefs (such as "it is holy to kill children", etc...)... I guess the only religious beliiefs I'm opposed to are "If you don't believe or behave as I do, then I hate you." and any actions that a person may take as a consequence of that.

Although I'm not wiccan, I think they have an expression similar to "If it harms no one, do what thou will." :)

I'm sure you are all nice folks, and I mean no disrespect, but you're all full of crap.

'I’m sure you are all nice folks, and I mean no disrespect, but you’re all full of crap.'
Heh, heh, please elaborate rather than using hit-and-run trolling.

    lol @ CE.

I suppose it had some message, but it was way too long. If I wanted a sermon...

I didn't really think it was attacking any religion in particular; having gone to Catholic school, I could tell you that just because a Bible was pictured says nothing about what was being taught due to the hundreds of different Christian sects that exist(I could also tell you never, ever to go Catholic school, but that's not what I'm getting at.

I got the impression that the video was merely pointing out that mental oppression of any kind is harmful, and that even when you think you have a set standard of rules you can still twist them any way you want while still believing that's you're in the right.

i like the art and the story is a good one for a younger audience to learn about so they can rebel against their overbearing parents and their non-compromising society...........

The premise that religion is as trivial as deciding how to build cupboards is rather flawed.

It's an analogy, not a premise, and there's nothing trivial about it. The cupboards represent our upbringing, and how we satisfy our need to deal with death.

    That's universal.

As someone who has built cupboards, I'm getting a kick out of these responses. Also, the way they put the faces on the drawers is incorrect: the nails or joints should go through the sidewalls to attach the face not through the face to attach to the sidewalls. The face would come off over time and repeated use if the incorrect method the movie demonstrates is used.

I think the video is saying, "all religions are okay, but Scientology is The BEST!"

Religion isn't trivial, it's an invention created by humans as a method of control, a control which needs to be broken - nicely pointed out in that fantastic video.

Organised religion is a great place to keep your socks.

Uh. When did it ever mention Christianity? Its just basically denouncing all intolerant religions, not Christianity. Unless you're inferring that because that's what you think Christianity is like.. Well then..

I've forwarded it on to friends.

    Thank you!
