Aviation Humor

After hitting pay dirt with his Military Truisms forum post, Neatorama reader SparkS did it again with this gem: Aviation Humor.

This one made me ROFL:

The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one’s gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground
control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206":

Speedbird 206: "Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway."

Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven."

The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.

Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"

Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I’m looking up our gate location now."

Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"

Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944 — but I didn’t land."

I don't think this is very funny, as I don't think jokes about "911" are particularly funny...

Old and Busted. Saw this in Readers Digest many moons ago.

So if the Speedbird pilot was 20 years old in `44, that would make him 84 years old today. I don't think BA would have someone that old piloting a 747. Plus, AndiB. is correct.

OH LOL. Unfortunately this same exact punchline is used in hundreds of military jokes.

AndiB - "I don’t think this is very funny, as I don’t think jokes about “911? are particularly funny…"

Since I posted the jokes on the Neatorama forum I don't remember seeing any that had a thing to do with 911. Methinks you need to lighten up some. That and learn how to make valid complaints. I don't know where you are but I have never heard a single joke about 911.

SoFar - Nice to know some people are paying attention.
Pan Am went out of business over 17 years ago.

Paul in Boca - "Plus, AndiB. is correct." Try not reading something into it that is not there. 911 was not mentioned any where.

I don't get it. Oh well, as long as every one else likes it.

BA never did and still does not use the Boeing 747 on its short-haul routes to frankfurt. frankfurt has no alpha-gates. their gates all begin with the letter v followed by a three-digit number. this has been like this since they introduced gates. (there used to be parking on the field itself in the old days.)

    also, old joke.

chris - Other than that how'd you like it? Do you pick every joke apart like that? Jokes aren't meant to be accurate they are simply meant to be funny. It's really a very simple concept. BTW it's Frankfurt.

liphttam1 - The BA pilot was saying he had been there on two bombing runs during WWII. That's why he didn't land.

AndiB - It's WWII, not 9/11 (as many others have said) And yes, this is a *very* old one. If you want a source for 'new' ones try, http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/shortfinal/list.html
