Maze Bookcase by Woodloops

That "maze" bookcase is built by German product designer René Mueller and forester Nina Griesshammer of Woodloops.

Their products are "green" (built out of wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council) – but even if you don’t care about all that, it’s still easy to marvel at the craftsmanship and wonderful design.

Modern, creative, innovative, and VERY, VERY, STUPID! This design uses about three times the wood that normally would be required, and enables the shelving of less that half the quantity of books that could otherwise be shelved. A really typical example of design before function, design before environment, design before much thought. STUPID!

I think it is pretty cool. I don't care if it takes ten times the wood and holds only a third as many books.

Book shelves should display your books so that they look appealing to read. I would love to have a bookshelf like this!

I'm with Woodhacker. It's not THAT good looking. And there really is nothing better looking than a good regular bookshelf filled with books.

It's different I'll give it that. But I'm more of the school of thought that books need to be shelved and in great amounts. My kingdom for a home library!

I don't know, it doesn't look like it wastes that much room, and the groove looks wide enough to put a paperback book or two. I bet you would be able to use most of the space for actual book storage.

A bookshelf is a shelf for books, not for pretension.

I really like it, but when I went searching for a price, I discovered that it is actually a CD shelf. Not so great for books. Bummer.
