World Record Beach Ball

Posted by Miss Cellania in World Records on October 27, 2008 at 8:21 pm

They like to do things big in Texas. On Sunday, the world’s biggest beach ball was dropped on Elm Street in Dallas. The ball was produced by Carnival Cruise Lines, and was accepted into the Guinness Book of World Records. Exact dimensions of the ball were not included in the article, but it was required to be more than ten meters in diameter to break the record. Link (with video) -Thanks, Brian!

We should have had that at high school graduation, but it would have been a little bit harder to hide and much harder to inflate.

I wonder how they went about getting this made and what the workers who put it together were thinking. Seems more like a parade balloon/float than anything else. Though watching it bounce on the video was great.

Er. How heavy is that beach ball?

The ball was half full of helium, so it wasn't that heavy at all. It was quite a sight! When they dropped it off the side of the building, it looked like it was falling in super slow motion!

It was so much fun. I heard that it was over 36 feet in diameter. seriously, so much fun. My friend made this video with sound that approximates the fun I had:

It was all fun and games until the ball popped. The shockwaves of that killed 11 people and destroyed countless shops. :(
