U-Ram Choe's Futuristic Bio-Mechanical Sculptures

Posted by Alex in Arts & Crafts, Pictures on October 17, 2008 at 6:04 pm

Korean artist U-Ram Choe who specialized in making wonderful, mechanical sculptures that look like futuristic biological organisms. Choe likes to incorporate scientific nomenclature into his artwork, and the art display reminds one of a prehistoric display at a natural history museum!

Here is Opertus Lunula Umbra (Hidden Shadow of Moon), as part of the Liverpool Biennial International 08 Exhibition:

Yup. That first one looks like the ribs of a giant extinct mammoth shrimp. Could you imagine putting that on a BBQ. Mmmm.

Nice detail work. I'll have to see how he made those. Must have access to a water jet cutter and more. Today I just completed a scrap metal dragon, I can imagine the large number of hours that had to go into each of those.
