With hurricane season in full force, Jalopnik has some tips that might come in handy for those living near the coasts.

Evacuating from a hurricane involves more than just getting into your car and driving away from the coast. Of the estimated 120 deaths associated with Hurricane Rita, 107 of them were related to the mass vehicular evacuation rather than the storm itself. With hurricane watches being issued for the Mid-Atlantic and a major hurricane approaching the Bahamas, we thought it was a good time to review the proper steps an individual should take when evacuating from a storm in a motor vehicle.

    this has nothing to do with the hurricane, but with one of the ads... when was the last time James Cromwell got top billing in a movie??

    ok, ill talk about hurricanes... i do have family staying with me because of it... now i realize that i should own more televisions...

    Wouldn't help traffic if the disaster planning people planned a way to use both directions of the highway to evacuate? Almost all the cars should be going in one direction so leave one lane open on the cars needing to go toward the evacuated site & open the other lanes to help get people out. We do similar things here when we tear down a bridge to reconstruct it.
