Umbrella Today?

By Miss Cellania in Everything Else on Sep 9, 2008 at 9:03 am

It’s the simplest weather report ever! Will you need an umbrella today? Just enter your ZIP code (it only works for the US) and Umbrella Today will give you a yes or no answer. You can also sign up to get a text message by phone on days you will need an umbrella. By coincidence, today is the first day my area has seen any rain in a couple of weeks. Link -via Geek Like Me

Wow, this is the best idea ever and goes along with my proposal of doing a "Coat report," where they announce what type of outer wear you need for your region. Nifty!

Excellent! It's raining right now where I live (on Long Island), and the answer was "No". Ergo, simplicity doesn't necessarily equal accuracy.

a british version of this could be made cheaply, and be accurate all the time.

It simply needs a 'yes' graphic, and if you really want an SMS system, send one a day to all subscribers..

it's UK .. yes .. you need an umbrella !

I'm in Texas. It's been raining all day but it's apparently the kind of rain that doesn't get you wet because it says I don't need an umbrella today.

@jmp478 - haha, a small world indeed; Eric Mill (mill-industries.com) of isitchristmas.com used to work withthoughtbot.com, who made umbrellatoday

@TonyC I think we threshold it at a low (but non-zero) chance of precipitation, so you might get a little wet on some non-umbrella days. Would you prefer it to message you if there's any chance of precipitation (honest question)?
