Why are the soccer and baseball maps different?

The landing area was very carefully selected in advance, perhaps due to its proximity to the landmarks most of interest to NASA? There are suggestions that the real purpose of the voyage was to confirm and investigate the existence of artificial structures present on the moon. See "Dark Mission" by Richard C. I feel very sorry for those who do not have confidence in the inteligence of readers and use those sports field comparisons.

The soundstage wasn't that big, so they couldn't travel all that far.

Calling Hoagland a nut is being entirely too charitable.

if i recall correctly, the lunar rovers were simply to save time - to get around to various interesting geological sites more quickly. more 'bang for the buck' when it came to precious time. i think they were only on apollos 15, 16, and 17. my mind has withered since when i used to know all that info.

The map refers to how far they walked during the Apollo 11 landing. There wasn't a rover on the Moon until Apollo 15.

This is not an insult to people's intelligence. It puts things in perspective, relating the sizes to something most people would be familiar with.

Most people don't go to stadiums to see sports. But most people have a good grasp of what a meter or a foot is.

alguien - I completely disagree. Most people do not have a better grasp of distances in metres or feet than they would picturing this in relation to a familiar object.

That's why when you go to that really big bridge in Virginia (or West Virginia or somewhere around there), they show you how many Empire State buildings high it is.

I don't know the exact measurements of a baseball stadium, but I sure know the approximate size of one.
