FloodSim Lets You Play God with Flood Water Policy

Posted by Alex in Flash Games, Politics on August 6, 2008 at 2:35 pm

FloodSim is an online game that lets you control all flood policy decisions and spending in the UK for 3 years ("Whether its deciding how much money to allocate to flood defences, deciding where to build houses, or how best to inform people about the risk of flooding, you are in control.")

At the end of the game, hopefully you won’t have put Westminster underwater! Link [Flash] – via Smart Planet, thanks Adam Vaughan!

Heh ... that V-shaped building kind of behind the London Eye, at the very bottom of the picture? I lived there for a while back in 2001 - seeing the place all flooded like that actually IS highly disturbing ... actually, I'm more than a little disturbed to admit that I'm more immediately bothered by that than by any of the REAL pictures I've seen of the current ongoing Midwestern US floods ... I -guess- there's a power in things you can relate to personally, but even so this is distressing ...

"FloodSim is a serious game with the aims to raise awareness of the vast number of issues surrounding flood policy and Government expenditure and to increase citizen engagement through an accessible simulation."

    Stupid.

Sounds like a really fun game. Can't wait to try it out. Thank you, Norwich Union.
