Steven Spielberg's First Movie Amblin' is Borin'

By Alex in Movies & SciFi on Jul 30, 2008 at 2:55 am

You’d think that Steven Spielberg’s first movie would be all about dinosaurs and aliens or something like that – but you’d be wrong. Very wrong: here’s Amblin’ (1968), the first film written and directed by Spielberg:

The film is a short story set during the hippy era of the late ’60s about a young couple who meet up in the desert, become friends, then lovers and make their way to a paradisiacal beach.

Link [embedded YouTube Link, 25 min long - and no, I didn't watch it all as - honestly - it was kind of boring ...] | Here’s an interview with Spielberg about his first movie (and its connection to Indiana Jones) – Thanks Juergen!

I always thought it was me, as that as what my Doctor said....but Spielberg? Boring.

They only film I liked of his is 'Empire of the Sun'.

I love dinosaurs and loved the effects in JPark but the plot, the acting, the moralising, oh please! ET was just turgid.

Oh wait, my Doctor is telling me I also liked 'The Goonies' so what would I know but I am not surprised that 'Amblin' is of boredom a citizen.

I've got THX-1138 on VHS tape. It's ridiculously boring but astoundingly poignant and powerful - really quite masterful. But it's no simple thrill ride.

    I never liked his works.
