The Bee Boy Crew

Watch Bee Boy do a hip-hop dance for his hive!

It is a fact of nature: When a honey bee returns to the hive after finding a good source of nectar, it will perform a unique dance for its hive mates, detailing the distance, quality and quantity of the new food supply.

Sadly, honey bees are mysteriously vanishing in staggering numbers – a crisis known as Colony Collapse disorder – which is alarming considering honey bees are responsible for pollinating one-third of our natural food supply.

Haagen-Dazs produced this video to raise awareness of Colony Collapse Disorder. They have a program you can join to learn more. Link

i am glad that this is getting more and more publicity. i am in the camp that tends to believe that neonicotinoids are the major cause. i seriously hope this gets sorted before it doesn’t.

not nearly as good as anything bee-related from season 1 of SNL, but then again, nothing is.

I live in a non-agricultural area and we are still having CCD issues. Most of my keeper friends lost 50-70% of their hives. I came through the winter OK, but I’m very geographically isolated.

Neonicotinoids may be harmful to bees, but they don’t seem to be the cause of CCD. It may simply be the proverbial death from a thousand cuts. Honeybees are being hit with a wide variety of pests, parasites and diseases. Eventually, they will adapt. The real question is, can we adapt while they adapt.

1/3 of our food supply is pollinated by honeybees. Without the commercial beekeepers, fruit and vegetable prices will skyrocket(if the product is available at all.)

Oh yeah, since all those dancers appeared to be male, they were going to disappear in the Fall anyway. Drones are useless except for breeding – I should be so lucky….

Bah! I would rather have had a bee like the one from ye olde Blind Melon’s music video “No Rain” dancing and singing.
