Was "Punch Drunks" the first film to feature a training montage?

Punch Drunks has always been my favorite 3 Stooges short. I still laugh hysterically when Larry runs down the street sped up. If you had to try and explain the Stooges to someone who had never seen or heard of them before, play them Punch Drunks. They'll understand immediately! Great piece Eddie.

My favorite Stooge effort. Punch Drunks was remade in a solo Shemp Howard short called "A Hit With a Miss" before Shemp (re-)joined the Stooges. In it, you can see much re-used footage, including a shot of what is clearly Larry Fine, not "Professor Periwinkle".
