Neatorama Update: Any Faster? Seeing a Redirection Error?

By Alex in Blogs & Internet on Mar 24, 2008 at 4:11 am

Talkin’ bout computer errors, we’ve been tinkering with Neatorama’s caching system and some of you have emailed me about a weird redirection error.

If you can’t see Neatorama’s post permalinks or comments (you get redirected to the home page instead) or if you have trouble with the feed (starting from now), please let me know.

Since you obviously can’t write a comment if you see this error, please email alex AT neatorama DOT com.

For those of you unaffected, I’d like to hear if you think Neatorama is loading any faster from where you’re at. Thanks!

Neatorama has been loading quite nicely today at my place. But I couldn’t say if it was really faster.

No errors, but no speed up for me either. Can’t say it has been that slow before the update…

Things are mostly okay here. Neatorama has always been nice and quick.

The only errors I’ve noticed are with the links under the heading Don’t Miss These. “Writers and the Sylvia Plath Effect”, “Not Exactly Prince Charming”, and “8 Museums You Won’t Be Bored By” all redirect to the home page.

This site is a favorite of mine. Thanks for all the hard work.

Hmm nope, even that works fine for me.

When hitting the comments link in the first entry, I was redirected back to the home page. Happened twice than on the third try, finally got to the comments section. No problems after that…

Hmm, Neatorama has always loaded reasonably quickly for me – at least, quickly enough that I’ve never really marked it as slow-loading or been annoyed with it. Towards that end while it does continue to load quickly, I can’t say that I’ve noticed that it’s loading any -more- quickly as of late …

okay i have noticed some issues just now: a) wrong time is being displayed, and b) when i click on the comments’ time info i get sent back to the start page.
For reference: it’s 13:32 here now. My issues are with the minutes, not the hours. forgot to set the time?

sometimes when i hit the comments section i go directly back to the homepage. this happened last week i think.

i use firefox on mac, if that makes any difference…

Seems the same. Now, can it handle Digg? :)

Well thankfully one of my three computers was abled to access the comments. The other two after multiple attempts (ie clicking like mad) resulted in me seeing the page reload to the start. Quite strange indeedy.

Cleared the cache no worky :(

I see it faster than before, but I tried to comment from a friend´s house and it was not possible. It was about ten hours ago. I´ll ask her to try again. :)

When I’m not logged in, and I go to open one of the permalinks, it just takes me to the main page, but the url is correct for the page it is supposed to be. Like say I clicked on this one, which I did. It just took me to neatorama.com the main page, but the URL was for this permalink. It works when I’m logged in though

Seems to be loading a little bit faster, not that it was particularly slow before though

I had this problem yesterday and today. When hitting any link, I was redirected back to the homepage. Now it’s working fine.

    Update for me:

works on vista with all the browsers
does not work at all (cant click on anything) with xp 64bit with any of the browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera) at home. I have yet to try one of the macs at work and my linux computer (too lazy to turn it on last night)…
oh and on the xp computer it also barely updates the amount of comments.

Much better, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE turn off the double underlined “Content Link” adware!

This is the first time I have been able to access the comments. Before, I was rerouted to the home page for two days. AND I can’t access any of the archives. I just get sent to the home page. I tried to email you–but is the address literally “alex” at neatorama dot com? I didn’t want to assume.

slightly off topic, but I’m having problems using Flock browser when in Neatorama. From time to time it would give me error messages and shut down. only in Neatorama and only when using Flock. Anyone knows about it? anyone else having this problem?

On my Macbook it certainly is loading alot faster…might be the updates that Apple sent out or perhaps I’ve been MIA from the site for awhile! :D

    Still the site looks smexy!
