Doesn’t the trumpet player look like the chainsaw guy from Smokin’ Aces?

The video you want to send back through time to Stalin, c. 1949 with a note reading: ‘Don’t start. Just don’t start! Or it will all end up like THIS!’

The power of music is astonishing. That was awesome. I can’t stop laughing.

This is the single best thing I have ever seen in my life. Ever. Now I know why the internet was invented.

    Two things:

Other cultures are weird. Not bad weird, just weird.

    and

Too bad it wasn’t written as “Sweet Home Georgia.” It would’ve added another layer.

Every now and then someone from your country does something and you think: “some day this will come back and bite our collective ass”.

At least that’s what I thought about this in 1993, and 15 years later it turns out I was right.

Well, at least we didn’t (insert favourite brand of Hitler-card here).

While in a relationship with a Finn about a decade ago, I got turned onto the Leningrad Cowboys; she said they were Suomi’s equivalent of U2. I’m not quite sure how to interpret that. But they’ve made movies, have liquors and beers named after them, and generally are weirdo tastemakers.

And if you think this is odd, their joint cover of “Stairway to Heaven” is fucking EPIC.

The Leningrad Cowboys originated in Kaurismäki’s “Leningrad Cowbows Go America”. It’s not his best movie, but it’s entertaining. Watch it for more of the band.

A European acquaintance told me about the Leningrad Cowboys a few years back. These guys have a great sense of humor and I think they are a good parody/satire project. People who liked the post might also check out their cover version of “Just a Gigolo”, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, and “California Girls”.
