Woman Battles Python for Kitten

By Miss Cellania in Animals & Pets on Mar 9, 2008 at 9:02 pm

150TuffyRuth Butterworth of Brisbane fought a python to save her kitten’s life. She was calling Tuffy to come inside when the snake encircled the cat and started to crush it.

“I just started punching the thick part of the snake where it was about the size of my arm,” Ms Butterworth said. “I wasn’t looking, I just kept punching until it let go.”

The snake bit Ms Butterworth twice before it released Tuffy, who ran indoors. It wasn’t until Tuffy was safe and Ms Butterworth fell backwards to get away from the snake that she realised she had broken her wrist and been bitten.

The same python had killed her mother’s cat just days before. Link -via Digg

I hate to say the obvious but, cats should be kept indoors to avoid such tragedies.

Pedantry alert: That’s Brisbane, Australia, not Brisbaine.

Other than that – great story, and one brave lady!

Obviously it was the cardiac health benefits of cat ownership that gave Ms Butterworth the strength to punch out a python.

No, it was Ms. Butterworth’s mother’s cat.

Ok- if snakey had smooshed one kitty, wouldn’t you decide kitty number two should stay inside.
What is with all these dumb pet owners lately in Australia letting their little darlings get swallowed by Pythons? I let my cats outside, but as a calculated risk taking into account how fast the cars go on my road, how close the coyotes will come, and how far the cats will wander, how much my neighbors hate cats etc… But if one of them were killed, pretty sure the others would not get to go out for a very long time.
Wasn’t it last week some Aussie’s Chihuaua sized dog was eaten by a python in front of the kids?
