The Battle of the Movie Weapons

150_vaderThe previously-linked article Top 50 Fictional Weapons drew much disagreement and conflicting opinions. Now we hear that 20th Century Fox commissioned a survey in which 2,000 moviegoers were asked which was their favorite weapon used in films. The top ten were:

1. Lightsabre (Star Wars)
2. .44 Magnum (Dirty Harry)
3. Bullwhip (Indiana Jones)
4. Samurai sword (Kill Bill)
5. Chainsaw (Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
6. Golden Gun (James Bond – The Man With The Golden Gun)
7. Bow and arrow (Robin Hood)
8. Machine gun (Scarface)
9. The Death Star (Star Wars)
10. Bowler hat (James Bond – Goldfinger)

What about "compressed air gun - No Country for Old Men"

It's not even just a weapon, it can be used for opening doors, and probably tons of other stuff. It's only a matter of time before these show up on QVC!

I don't think the Golden Gun should be on there. Bond's Walther PPK is much cooler, more practical (the golden gun only shoots one bullet and you have to assemble it from cufflinks, a pen and a lighter first) and less tacky. Whoever makes something out of gold that really doesn't need to be clearly has some bling issues going on.
Also, the daggers from V for Vendetta are one of the coolest movie weapons ever (and I DID like the film, and I HAVE read the book. Problem?). As well, even though it doesn't PROPERLY count as a weapon, the sonic screwdriver from Doctor Who, because... well it's a SONIC SCREWDRIVER ^_^

Since the chainsaw was attached to his arm, Ash from "Evil Dead" is the coolest weapon in a movie. Also, since he used the boomstick half of the time, he was like a weapon using a weapon, which is twice as cool. God I'm a geek sometimes.

Much better than the Top 50 list.

    10. Bowler hat (James Bond - Goldfinger)

How can anyone forget the book that Jason Bourne used in Bourne Ultimatum to kill Desh?

What the heck? No phaser? It should've placed second after the lightsaber.

Mos' def the Pulse Rifles from Aliens.

Or anything wielded by Paul Atreides--including a sandworm...

I like these better, forget all those boring real-world bullet guns:

that flying saucer-guillotine from "I Come In Peace"
that Electro-whip thing from "Johnny Mnemonic"

MrPumpernickel, I thought the very same thing. I'd want a phaser too, although I think the light sabre is much cooler.

Deep sleep gun from Logan's run.

  17. Samurai Sword

I have always thought the Samurai Sword was the ultimate modern day weapon, but I have to agree, for the future...lightsaber. If you really think about it, it's just a futuristic sword anyway.
