NASA’s Spirit rover landed on Mars on January 4, 2004 – and promptly sent this image of its welcoming party: a small humanoid.
Oh, and on its way to the Gusev Crater, the rover picked up an image of a Martian skull. NASA, of course, claimed that they were just rocks….

I agree with Atomicsecrets… it looks like someone cut and pastes a frame from that famous bigfoot film onto a martian landscape. That’s the first thing I though: that this was just a goof.

That’s pretty creepy, but it looks to be about the size of a GI Joe if it’s supposed to be a statue. Perhaps Martians are just really, really tiny and that’s why we never notice evidence of their civilization!
It even appears on the “raw” photograph they use to stitch together the panoramas (see: http://marsrovers.nasa.gov/gallery/all/2/p/1367/2P247720343EFFAWCCP241 5L7M1.JPG ), so there’s really no telling what the story behind it is. From the raw photo, though, I’m thinking it’s a shadow, perhaps?

The famous face was only made possible by very specific lighting conditions, I’d like to see a photo of the same place at a different time.

Since we humans look for patterns around us (clouds, rocks, mountains, plants etc.)I have to say that has to tbe oddest looking rock that just screams of a human form. Damn you NASA and your conspiracies! :p
