15 details to help you throw a Lost party

The wait is almost over, you guys. Yes. Lost is back on January 31. I know not everyone is into Lost, but the people that are *really* are. I include myself in that statement.

There is a group of six of us that get together for "Lost night" once a week and to have dinner and watch the show at one of our houses. When Lost went on hiatus, we started watching Grey’s Anatomy (big mistake. I’m so done with Grey’s). When everything was on repeat this summer, we started watching old Mystery Science Theaters.

Anyway, now that I have actual Lost night to look forward to again, I’ve been trying to plan a party for that night, with Lost-themed food and décor and whatnot. In case you’re planning a party, here are a few ideas for you.

Obvious Ideas:

1. Serve airplane-sized bottles of liquor and mini packets of peanuts

2. Label all of your condiments and boxes with Dharma logos. You can get a Dharma font here. It’s pretty cool, actually – not only do you get the Dharma logos for cola, crackers, candy and more, you get each of the stations plus the logos for the Hanso Foundation, Oceanic Airlines, Mr. Cluck’s Fried Chicken, DriveShaft and more. Here’s another option for you.

3. Seafood of any kind is always an option. Smoked salmon would look exceptionally good.

4. These awesome cupcakes from myaimistrue.com.

5. Scatter your luggage all over the living room (or wherever you’re viewing the show).

Oceanic flight boarding pass6. If you’re artistically inclined, draw a Dharma logo on some butcher paper and attach it to your door as if your guests are entering a hatch when they’re entering your house. If I tried to do this, it would look like something a four-year old drew. I’m just sayin’.

7. I’m not this fancy, but if you’re really doing it up, send out invitations that look like Oceanic Air Boarding passes. It wouldn’t be too hard to Photoshop up.

Subtle Ideas:

8. Cookies shaped like fish – for Sawyer’s fish biscuits

9. For snacking, leave out a tray of candy bars covered in the Apollo logo.

Apollo Dark Chocolate

10. Order good ol’ KFC but put "Mr. Cluck’s Fried Chicken" labels on the buckets.

11. For an exclusive Lost soundtrack, hit up iTunes. You could give out a prize for the first person to correctly identify when/where the song was used on the show. Here’s what you’re going to need:

– Make Your Own Kind of Music – Mama Cass
– Downtown – Petula Clark
– Wonderwall – Oasis
– Good Vibrations – The Beach Boys
– Catch a Falling Star -Perry Como
– Walkin’ After Midnight – Patsy Cline
– La Mer – Charles Trenet
– Anything else from thislist.

Obscure Ideas:

12. For dessert or decoration, artfully arrange orange slices on a plate. You could add some pineapple and coconut to balance it out. The orange slices are the obscure mention though.

13. Mark your wine with a Moriah Vineyards label.

MacCutcheon Whiskey14. Label a bottle of whiskey as "MacCutcheon". You could also use apple juice if you don’t feel like tying one on.

15. Print off these pictures and slide them in one of your CD cases. Leave the CDs somewhere inconspicuous.

Just a few ideas… there are so many you could run with, especially obscure references. For some more ideas, just hit some random pages on Lostpedia. You’re bound to get all sorts of ideas. And if you have any brilliant thoughts on what I could do/make, leave me a comment and let me know.

p.s. 15 ideas… get it?

You know...I'm not into Lost at all. I've never even seen 1 episode. But this sounds like a lot of fun. My friends and I would do similar things when we watched The Sopranos, especially the last two seasons when our "family" expanded. "These Sunday dinners are important, Janice!" The season premiere would be an italian pot luck with someone brining the chicken parm, someone with the fried eggplant, and so on. Then each week thereafter 1 person or a tag-team would make there signature italian dish for the rest to enjoy. Of course now that the show has ended we don't get together that often. Maybe I could have a 24 party and just yell "Holster your weapon!" at everyone as they walk through my CTU/Living room. I hope you and your company have a lot of fun with LOST. The commercials for this season look good. Late...

If you have access to an old-style overhead projector you can print off the hatch logos on overhead sheets made for ink jet printers. It's would be easy to trace the logo on a large sheet of paper and have it look great. I've done this with coloring book images and it turns out great!

Awesome Ideas! I'm having a whole whack of people over on the Thursday to watch. I'm really digging the cupcake idea and might go with that. We also do a drinking game, which is the best way to watch Lost (but only with episodes you've seen before, otherwise you get too caught up in the show and forget about the game!)

We usually get a flate of beer (or cola if it's a weeknight) and everyone takes one can/bottle when the show starts. Whenever something happens, you take a sip/gulp/chug. For example:

Saywer calls someone by a nickname = One sip
Jin speaks English = one sip
Hurley says dude/Desmond says "Brutha" = one sip
Jack cries = one big gulp
Kate flip flops between Jack and Sawyer = one big gulp
Scene with a montage = everyone shout "MONTAGE!!" and chug until the music/slow motion stops
    etc. etc.

The list can go on and on, but it's best if you have a smaller one so everyone knows what to look for. It's really a fun game and gets everyone into the spirit for the new episode.

Cassie's drinking game is great! Reminds me of the old days, playing "Hi Bob!" while watching the Bob Newhart Show; every time someone says "Hi Bob!" everyone takes a swig.

I was pretty much a Lost devotee through the second season, but totally lost (no pun intended) interest in the third. Things were weird the first two seasons, but they got downright bizarre in the third, then went downhill from there. I'll likely watch a few episodes this season to see what's up, but after seeing the teasers I don't hold out much hope for the show.

We're doing Dharma labels, fish biscuits, polar bears inconspicuously placed around the room, turning the front door into the hatch (using cardboard - drawing the hatch with a big 'quarantine' across it), having the computer replicate "entering the numbers" (via screensaver), tiki torches, and best of all - blue tarps hanging all across the ceilings! Its gonna be EPIC!

Oh man! Do any of you people live in the Portland Or area?? I would love to go to one of these parties! I'd throw one myself, but I don't know anyone in my circle of friends that watches Lost. Great ideas!

I am racking my brain - what is the reference to "Orange Slices" at least which season is it in?

@ craig - very first episode, when Locke smiles and we see a mouthful of Orange peel :)

@Shanessa - wow! You *really* go all out! That's awesome. I bet your guests had a blast!

We're throwing a surprise bday party...LOST style. We're all dressing up as a character and birthday boy has to guess who we are. Also, we're doing a character/quote matching game. Haven't figured out what we'll do as a prize for the winner, but we'll see.

I am so happy to have found this site! I am planning to have a LOST series finale(sniff, sniff)party with just me & my husband. One thing I think would be cool is to make t-shirts with some kind of LOST logo on the front. I printed out a photo of Charlie & Claire(my mom's absolute fave!)& put it on a shirt for her & she was so thrilled! It's really easy. You just print it out with the 'mirror image' setting on your photo software(I have Picasa3)& print it off onto transfer paper for clothing. Easy. May do something like that with labels for glasses. Too bad some website didn't sell Oceanic Airlines logo glasses. You know, those little glasses they give you your soft drinks in on the plane? I think somewhere would sell those. Plain glasses.
ANYway, to Bobbie~how about a 'survival kit' for the winner? You could put a needle & thread mending kit(Pilot~Kate sewing Jack up), a can of beer with the Dharma Logo on it, reminder note to push the buttons~ with the numbers on it, bottle with some messages in it, etc. Stuff like that! Just an idea! Oh, yeah! Also, a little baggie of faux heroin~nooooo, not the real stuff, just some raw sugar to LOOK like the real thing. Just some things that make you think of LOST. I can't believe the season premiere is on January 31! That is my little granddaughters' 2nd birthday! I guess we can spend the day with her & come home in time to watch it. She IS more important than any show. I CAN record it, but it seems to lose something if you watch the recording. But, if it doesn't come on til 7pm or 8pm, we are fine.
Aloha & have a blast with all those parties!!!
