Dutch artist Henk Hofstra turned a 1000 m (0.6 mi) stretch of road in Drachten, the Netherlands into an "urban river" by painting it blue!

Artist Florentijn Hofman has done similar things in the past, including painting roads yellow

And what the author of these roads is aiming to prove?

Looking at Google Maps, the end of the "river" is at the end of a brook: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=53.105896,6.081952&spn=0.004689  ,0.009377&t=h&z=17&om=1 - the roundabout is also seen on the top Wooster Collective photo.

the road used to be a canal, and will be dug up in the near future, this is done to get used to it.

"urban river", huh? You should have put "artist" in quotes as well.

I think that 2 year old ketchup-smearer is a better artist.

That road is set to be turned into a canal sometime in the near future, so the city thought it would be clever to paint the road blue to get everybody excited about the project. There's also a sculpture of a sinking car somewhere along that stretch of road.

Interesting, though that street is going to be BLINDING when it gets really sunny.
