"athiest" means exactly what it says, A-THEIST... if you are a thiest, you believe in the theory of religion. if you are athiest, you don't. doesn't mean you can't be thankful and appreciative.

Also, isn't this the last place this quote should go?

Yea, John, and you probably live only for yourself also. What a sad life you must live if you can only thank yourself.

    "Atheist" is not spelled "Athiest"

"What a sad life you must live...". Boo-hoo, tell it to Oprah.

I'm not superstitious, so when I'm happy, I simply thank whoever was involved in making me happy. If I'm happy for no reason at all, then I'm just happy.

There are over 10,000 known religions in the world. As an atheist, I just believe in one less god than you.

Atheists are arrogant fools. Just try talking to one.

    Seems like an odd quote.

I'm an atheist and I always know who to thank.

It seems to me if one is thanking "God" for everything positive in their lives, they are likely overlooking the work of a lot of good people.

Scot, not that I think you'll actually take the time to read this, but: http://atheism.about.com/od/knowledgeofreligiongod/a/FoolHeartGod.htm

Appreciation of good fortune is a state of mind only, a recognition that one does not deserve the good things that happen which heightens the enjoyment there of. Attaching ones self to some imaginary provider in the sky detracts from that by adding a sense of entitlement based on moral superiority.

The worst moment for the theist is when something awful happens for no reason and he has to explain to his kids that "God has a purpose."

"Atheists are arrogant fools. Just try talking to one."

I like the fact that you being presumptuous and employing logical fallacies makes atheists the arrogant fools.

and seriously, the quote should read more like:

"The worst moment for the theist is when he is really thankful, and has nothing to thank but a nonsensical manifestation of doubt and insecurity."

let's chalk this up as atheist misunderstanding #1,839,342

Life, for most people, follows a classic bell curve. It's mostly ok, with small moments of great joy or great sorrow tossed in. Why do the religious freaks "thank god" for the good parts, but don't "blame god" for the bad parts or the seemingly endless days of mediocrity?

It's cute when a toddler believes in Santa Claus, it's pathetic when a so called adult believes in something just as fictional.

I thank the people who have helped me and myself. I don't see the logic behind this quote at all.

I thank on a daily basis that I'm no close-minded, preachy, holier-than-thou lemming, like Scot. Thanks!!

Personally I like to thank the reproductive process for all the good things that happen to me. Never heard the expression 'thank f**k for that'?

I sometimes lay in bed, awake at night, thinking this:
One day I'll be dead in the ground. My feet will be rotting. My knees will be rotting. My shoulders will be rotting.
    Where will my mind be?

Beyond that, it's hard to not believe in God.

how silly and narcissistic to think your mind will be anywhere at all. In a universe of temporary things why should you be otherwise.
