Trivia: Aztec and The Art of Naming a Child

Posted by Alex in Daily Trivia on September 23, 2007 at 4:20 pm

Aztec emperor Montezuma had a nephew named Cuitlahuac, which meant "plenty of poo" or “dry excrement.” And here I am thinking that people today give their kids weird names….

I wonder why they named that kid that? No high expectations for him?

That’s funny… I think there’s a type of Mexican food called “Cuitlacoche,” which I’ve heard translated to mean, “Corn Smut.”

@ Ris: It does! the blasted thing is basically corn fungus which sounds pretty disgusting but isn’t that bad when cooked properly.

    Poor Cuitlahuac :(

I’ve had four kids and the name is appropriate. :)
