Puffin: Symbol of Hardwork and Excrement-Hiding Excellence

By Alex in Animals & Pets, Politics on Sep 3, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Michael Ignatieff of Liberal Party of Canada wants to make the puffin the symbol of his political party.

Why? Here’s his reasoning:

"It’s a noble bird because it has good family values. They stay together for 30 years,” Ignatieff said Thursday outside a Liberal caucus retreat in the Newfoundland capital.

"They lay one egg (each year). They put their excrement in one place. They hide their excrement. … They flap their wings very hard and they work like hell.

"This seems to me a symbol for what our party should be.”

I didn’t know one criteria for an animal mascot is what he does with his excrements…

Well I guess we wont be seeing any pigeons for progress groups… :)

The hiding of the excrements is obviously a reference to the sponsorship scandal.

It was the Liberal Party of Canada that was responsible for that under Jean Chretien.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sponsorship_scandal

We lost the referendum ( The vote for the country of Quebec to be separated from the rest of canada thus liberating us from the obligation to pay federal taxes because we really dont see our money worth here. ) by less then 1%.

Technically, the “Yes” already won and we’re no longer canadians. Our doctors will come back to work in our province instead of migrating to the US, our roads and bridges will be fixed once and for all and our educational system will stop degrading.

    Finally I say.

At Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, FL, the senior class gift to my graduating class of 2006 was our new mascot, WPB the Puffin! WPB stands for Wolfgang Picasso Baryshnikov. As a performing arts school, we don’t have any sports programs that a mascot might attend… so instead the Puffin makes appearances at all of the annual shows our different arts areas put on.
