Disturbing? Not in the slightest. Just a whole bunch of people doing what they like to do and being happier for it.

Well bleh in that I think it looks horrible. But good for them that they're doing what makes them happy.

The list is clearly missing pioneering modern tattooed man The Enigma.

It's missing a lot of people, such as Bruce Potts and Matt Gone for instance, and plenty of other people who would also fit into the top ten. Or how about Michael Jackson or Jocelyne Wildenstein? Plastic surgery is also body modification after all.

I used to wear earrings. Long, dangly, cool earrings.
Then I realized when I was talking to people they weren't looking at me, they were looking at my earrings.
When people look at the people in this post they don't see them, they see the modifications they've done.

Egads. This post should have been titled "Attention Seeking Behavior".

Far be it from me to judge what other people do, but it seems that the only one of the ten that has any sense is Julia Gnuse; she's at least got a reason behind getting tattooed.

One has to wonder whether the Leapord guy scampers about on all fours when nobody is around. I doubt it.

I don't think Dennis (Stalking Cat) is really after the attention. I live near him, yet rarely see him in public. If he wants attention, all he has to do is walk down the street -- he'll get your attention.

I've seen him in the theatre over town ("over town" means off the island), and the most notable thing about him was his groupies. There were about half a dozen semi-furries, with some sort of cat decoration:
ear headband, tail hanging from belt, painted face, etc. Dennis was like the head cat. It was very surreal, and kind of sad.

"Far be it from me to judge what other people do..."

Yet that is exactly what you do in the sentence right before that one. Make up your mind.

What is to say that the other people have no reason for what they have done? Just because you don't know their reason doesn't mean that they don't have a reason.

Attention seeking? Yeah, because there are no other, easier ways, to seek attention than to spend tousands of dollars, countless hours and quite a bit of pain and discomfort? Top Leppard who you mention for instance lives really remote and only really goes into society once a week or so to pick up groceries. That's attention seeking if I ever saw it, whoa!

Is it so hard to think before opening your mouth, or in this case pushing keys on your keyboard?

    Mr.Pumpernickel, you have my support.

I personally know one of the above listed top ten. He is a friend, he is an incredibly stable individual, and he is doing what he loves to do. These folk at the least are doing what they want with their lives- perceived maybe as irresponsible sure...but *loving* it. Because you cannot understand it doesn't make their actions immediately wrong or something for you to be so rightious to judge. These reporters came to THEM to display - they did not seek them out for your attention.

I think it's pretty darned self-flattering to assume these folks do what they do to "get our attention," why on earth should they care about our notice one way or the other? As Tori and others have pointed out, going quite -that- far seems far more likely to be due to just flat-out loving it - if attention was all they were after there are far cheaper, easier, and less painful ways of getting it ...

On a totally different note, of all the documentaries and articles I've ever seen on folks like this, the one thing that's always struck me as very oddest is how that Cat fellow is often wearing a tiger t-shirt in those documentaries ... no idea why but that makes me giggle - "Boy, it's a lucky thing that guy with the black & orange stripes and the whiskers and pointed teeth and claws and bifurcated lip had that tiger t-shirt on or I -never- would've picked up on the theme he was going for ... "

I'm of two minds about people like this. On one level they are apparently mentally ill. On the other hand, they're not hurting anyone, and life is short so why not enjoy it while you can. I think the self-abuse/mutilation is what bothers other people more than the adornment.

Tinderbox, "apparently mentally ill"? Why would someone be mentally ill, apparent or not, just because one chooses to adorn him or herself in various ways? Since when could you make a definite call about one's mental health simply by looking at a picture, or short video clip, of them? Armchair psychology at its finest, really. Everyone thinks they're an expert yet most people don't know what they're talking about.

Have you checked the mirror lately, Mr. Mousepuke?

From the comments, I'd say someone needs a nap.

    Freaks.
    Every last one of them.
    Attention whores.

    Mentally ill is right.

These are the kind of people who go out onto public and then say, "What are you looking at?"

Freaks...that's all there is to say about them.

The link is not working for me. Deputy Dog seems to be down.
