Photos of the dark side of Uranus.

Uranus’ rings weren’t discovered until 1977. Now, a telescope in Hawaii has taken images of the side where the sun doesn’t shine. The changes observed in the rings since 1980 are attributed to large impacts. Let the puns begin. Link

the simple fact that someone took pictures of Uranus where the sun doesn’t shine just kinda makes me giggle.

yes, uranus has a ring, it revealed itself when a large body penetrated deep into it!
i’m glad we’ve all finally managed to get a good peek at it!!

From Harry Potter’s Goblet of Fire:

Oh Professor, look! I think I’ve got an unaspected planet! Oooh, which one’s that, Professor? — Lavender
It is Uranus, my dear — Professor Trewlawney
Can I have a look at Uranus too, Lavender? — Ron

Where the Sun doesn’t shine?! Me thinks someone was playing with words here, especially, considering the subject planet! :)

Erhm. That’s not a ring, that’s a klingon going round and round uranus, till you wipe it off.

I’ve been waiting so long to have a look at the dark side or Uranus.

Seeing as how you’d have to be on the far side of Uranus to take a picture “where the sun doesn’t shine”, a telescope in Hawaii won’t do it for you.

I was reading that scientist have gotten tired of all the Uranus jokes and are renaming the planet.

They’re going to call it Urectum instead.

A telescope in Hawaii captured these images? Maybe it’s too early in the morning, but I can’t noodle out how that was accomplished. Earth is on a smaller orbit than Uranus, so how do you get a shot of the far side of it?

The best I can figure is that the earth is far enough from the sun to get a slight angle when the orbits are right. I’ll try to look that up.

It’s a shame, but due to the poisonous gases that exist, Man can not survive anywhere near URANUS (and… fill in hundreds of other Uranus jokes).

Miss C. you have a great looking dark side. Darth told me so himself. :)

What’s with that dark spot on Uranus?

    Hawaii?

I would think it would require a probe to examine the dark side of Uranus. Have there been probes to Uranus?

The Robotic Overlords used poisonous gases on Uranus too? I think they took their instructions to poison asses too literally. Robots will do that.

We can’t get a full planet view of the dark side of a planet in a larger orbit than our own.
