Part of me really likes the look of that room.

Another part of me is ashamed of that part of me.

    It’s all about that wallpaper.

Does the wake-up call involve a knock on the door in the middle of the night?

It might Alex. But it’s good to know that (from the about page):
“And don’t worry! So far no-one’s been arrested at the border crossing…”

i wonder if it involves the hotel management trying to recruit your spouse/friend to spy on you.

This is “Travel Back in Time” (only). In my friend flat time stopped in ’78 (and many many more flats are the same).
P.S. I live in Poland, Kielce – my friend city :)

I’m afraid I haven’t seen “Goodbye Lenin”, but I will.

My girlfriend is actually born in former East Germany and recognizes A LOT of the interior design from the Ostel hotel. They didn’t have much to choose from back in the old East German days. It was a very, very limited set of furniture you had to choose from. If you wanted a bed, you could pick Bed1 or Bed2. If you wanted a kitchen table, you could pick Table1 or Table2 – more or less.

Believe or not, they had to queue for at least 10 years to get a Trabant. When they finally had the chance to get one of those cardboard cars, the wall came down. :)

Anybody else noticed the neat illusion when you put that picture in your browser window and scroll it up and down a few clicks? Crazy.
