Mastodon Fossil Discovered in San Diego.

Construction workers in a San Diego housing development project unearthed the remains of a mastodon:

Meet Carly, whose remains were exhumed this week.

Carly was a mastodon who lived 120,000 to 220,000 years ago and, unfortunately for him or her, died in a bog in what is modern-day Carlsbad.
