Author Kurt Vonnegut dies at 84:

Kurt Vonnegut, the satirical novelist who captured the absurdity of war and questioned the advances of science in darkly humorous works such as "Slaughterhouse-Five" and "Cat’s Cradle," died Wednesday. He was 84.

Vonnegut, who often marveled that he had lived so long despite his lifelong smoking habit, had suffered brain injuries after a fall at his Manhattan home weeks ago, said his wife, photographer Jill Krementz.

As a young writer, I read a lot of his work. It was very influential.

Not the right time for that “first” post. More importantly, though, you will be missed, Kurt.

I hope “everything was beautiful and nothing hurts” is on his gravestone, l.b. jeffries.

i agree with a, but perhaps he is better off, freed from the burdens of this world.

I only read Slaughterhouse-Five, but I did enjoy it a lot. It was different from any other science fiction I’d ever read.

His gravestone? If it’s anything other than “Hi Ho” I’ll be very disappointed.

I am so sad about this. I am an avid reader and he is by a very far margin my favourite author. I absolutely loved how he could tell a very interesting and mind blowing story and at the same time make a social or political commentary without actually pointing anything out.

If you’ve never read his books or want to read one of his really great ones, try “Cat’s Cradle”

    I think I need a breakfast of champions now…at 10am

As a non-reader, I don’t think I have read any of his stuff.

if you go to his website http://www.vonnegut.com there is a drawing (most likely his) of a bird cage, door open and nothing inside…

Okay…one more post about this and it is only because it means that much.

“A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.”
