Quake lifts Solomons island ten feet out of the sea

In an instant, the grinding of the Earth’s tectonic plates in the 8.0 magnitude earthquake forced the island of Ranongga up ten feet.

It’s sad the fragile coral reef is going to die, but what a reminder of how powerful mother nature can be.

    All I say is this: Man’s ability to mess things up is nothing compared to the destructive power of the planet itself. I don’t think man can move this much solid rock this fast without it being pulverized.
