Segway as Predicted in 1900.

Paleo-Future, a fantastic blog about "the future that never was," dug up a nice image that ran in the Brown County Democrat (De Pere, Wisconsin) newspaper in 1900. Back then, they predicted that we’ll all have Segway-like "Footomobile" by now!

Ironically, considering how popular Metal Scooters and Skateboards have become with this latest generation - if not for the ubiquitous big city vehicular traffic and crowded sidewalks - something like this just might have taken off recently

Lovely old-styled picture. It really reminds Footomobiles.

That's incredible because I see people riding around Segways every day, on their way to work, to the grocery store, to the --- oh wait -- nope. No, I don't.

Interesting that this futuristic world seems to be utterly white male-dominated. I suppose the imagination could only stretch so far!

I love the image of the two guys in the background rubbing their chests together to make sparks.

Umm, Tim, think that's a collision. (Unless, of course, they are making sparks, which explains why there's no women!)

I get a kick out of the "cow catchers" on the front of the gizmos. What a great way to toss pedestrians out of one's way!

I predicted Segway robots in the mid-1990s. I hadn't appreciated this prediction lark (for Segways) went back 100 years! Just think of the difference in history if the electric car (which were available back then) (and segways) caught on rather than the dreaded gasoline mobiles...
