Precious Images is an Oscar-winning short film by Chuck Workman, featuring 500 movie clips in seven minutes. I was surprised to realize that I have seen and enjoyed just about all of these movies! Push play or go to YouTube. -via Grow-A-Brain

Did anyone else notice how few movies from the last 5 years or so were in this piece? Were there any? I guess it's true; they just don't make 'em like they used to.

I certainly noticed that, because I used to watch movies so much and haven't in the last ten years since the kids arrived. I don't think its neccessarily because the movies are not as good these days (like I would know), but it takes quite a few years for any movie to achieve "classic" status. How well a film holds up over time is important.

    Probably a cost/ copyright thing.
Can you imagine how much trouble it would take to get permission to use all those films individually?
Probably most of those are owned by a few people who gave their permission.

They play an edited version of this same film at the end of The Great Movie Ride at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando.

This film was originally made in 1986 according to IMDB, so that's why so many recent films aren't included it it.

And actually, I think most people would be flattered to have their work included in a Chuck Workman film.

Here's a list of all the films included:

Although there may be a later version of it, because I distinctly remember seeing Tom Hanks with silly string from "Big" (1988) and it's not on that list which is arranged by year.

I believe this film is from 1993. I was out of college then, but our college theater got a copy of it and ran it all the time. We used to say that if there were more than 2 dozen talkies listed here you hadn't seen then you had to get to the store and rent them.

I received a message from the person who posted this to YouTube:

Yes, Workman did an update in the 90's. That's when films like PHiladelphia and Do The Right Thing (among others) were added
    thanks

This was produced and released in 1994 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of moviegoing.
