Will a Robot Build Your Next Home?

Posted by Anita in Gadget, Science & Tech, Video Clips on January 16, 2007 at 3:08 am

The video above shows the process by which robots may soon be able to build homes for 1/5th the cost of current construction methods, in under 1/100th the time, with almost no human intervention. Hit play or go to link [YouTube].

Sound like science fiction? Behrokh “Berok” Khoshnevis, professor at University of Southern California, doesn’t think so. He is actually developing a much larger version of the “Contour Crafting” robot, which he intends to demonstrate by building a full-sized shell of a home in under 24 hours no later than this April. Read more about his plans and his competition at The Sunday Times.

I must extend a huge “Thank You” to Professor Khoshnevis for providing me with permission to upload this great video to YouTube and post it to Neatorama. If you’re interested in learning more about the technology, please visit his website: Contour Crafting.

They may be able to build the houses at 1/5 the cost, but I will pretty much guarantee you, they will cost the consumer the same, or more ("Well we had to pay for the robots!")

    Cheaper shelters for everyone.

    HUZZAH!

Can't wait to see what the houses built with that technology will look like. One thing for sure is that there will be more time for detals like isolation.

If robotics are effective in the building industry what will we do with all the unemployed illegal aliens?
