What does a flaming laptop look like? Here’s a setup of one:

To jump start the reaction, we artificially forced the battery pack into an unstable state. But the initial battery cell reaction and the on-going chain reactions are real.

I hope the rest of the airlines don't start banning laptops because of this. Quantas, Korean, and Virgin already placed restrictions on certain laptops.

Sitting here watching youtube (on my laptop) (a dell BTW) this still made me laugh. I love the guys in the back ground cheering on the explosions. This is what happens if you leave boys unsupervised!! I am convinced. Now I am off to double check a) my batteries serial number and 2) if my fire extinguisher is a class D....

i wouldn't blame the airlines for banning laptops. what would you do if that happened on an airplane? i'd like to know how the makers of this video put out the fire. i guess they had one of those class d extinguishers.

Both Sony and Dell had battery problems.

I believe the Dell laptops (and IBM, and Apple, etc etc etc) with the exploding battery problems were all supplied with Sony batteries, though. Poor ol' Sony, just hasn't been having a smash-up year I guess. http://www.engadget.com/tag/explodingbatteries

And I agree with Starstonight, the guys cheering on the exploding batteries rock =) What fun it would be, to get to take part in stuff like that!
