The Perfect Face for Comedy.

By Alex in Everything Else on Nov 20, 2006 at 1:28 pm

Scientists at the University of Stirling, UK, blended the features of the 20 top UK comedians to come up with the perfect face for comedy.

They discovered that a round face with small forehead, a wide nose, and soft feminine features are most likely to make people laugh. Oh, and that Ricky Gervais [wiki], the creator and star of "The Office" is the closest fit:

Gervais pronounced himself "shocked" by the results of the survey.

He said: "All these years I assumed my global success as a comedian was down to my acute observations, expert directorial rendering and consummate skills as a performer – turns out it’s because I’ve got a fat girly face."

I believe the only reason the composite is a male with female overtones is that the comedians they used were majority male with some females, nothing to do with comedy. However, this face does look altogether open and inviting to humor.

I think Eddie Izzard might be skewing the girly factor.

The composite face kind of looks like Peter MacNicol.

That may explain why I want to laugh whenever I see MacNicol’s face.
