Humanity to Split into Two Sub-Species?

Posted by Alex in Everything Else on October 18, 2006 at 3:05 am

From the website:

Humanity may split into two sub-species in 100,000 years’ time as predicted by HG Wells, an expert has said.

Evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry of the London School of Economics expects a genetic upper class and a dim-witted underclass to emerge.

The human race would peak in the year 3000, he said – before a decline due to dependence on technology.

People would become choosier about their sexual partners, causing humanity to divide into sub-species, he added.

The descendants of the genetic upper class would be tall, slim, healthy, attractive, intelligent, and creative and a far cry from the "underclass" humans who would have evolved into dim-witted, ugly, squat goblin-like creatures.

This smacks of racism, eugenics, and just plain pseudoscience. The fact that it goes back to H.G. Wells as an example is indicative of the mindset.

Evolution is a little more complicated than selective breeding.

If anything, we've already sown the seeds for a dim-witted upper class. Example: Paris Hilton.

And as for a good-looking upper class, that's pretty much out the window. Examples: Prince Charles, Donald Trump, Bill Gates.

    Need I say more?

Ollie can say whatever ass-hat thing he wants; after all, by the time he is proven or disproven, he will be pushing up evolved daisys.

I think when you read the text above you need to visualize the two sub-humans they are talking about. They are not talking about class in terms of money, but in terms of humanity. If people choose to let technology run their lives then they will become the "underclass" but those who do not will become the "upperclass". It is a cautionary tail to all the classes that I feel only the "genetic upper class" will follow through with.

    I think the study is a joke/hoax.

See science fiction author C.M. Kornbluth and his delightful Marching Moron stories.

I've been doing evolution for the last five years straight, and saw this split developing many years ago. I'm glad someone finally believes in the logical outcome of humanity.I'm glad to be one of the ubermensch.
