Real Beauty

An ad from the Dove Real Beauty campaign, highlighting the difficulty of looking like a model. Other Dove videos on the subject of young girls’ self-esteem can be found here and here, plus my thoughts on the campaign from last year.

    I like this ad.

But regarding the original campaign of “fat or fab”, “wrinked or wonderful”, etc.

I was always bothered by the fact that they required people to make a choice between the bad (fat, wrinkled, etc) and the good (fab, wonderful, etc). However, the real campaign for real beauty would be to acknowledge that the models and women can be both.

The primping.. the make-up, that’s fine with me. Gals want to be pretty and clean looking.. make-up can be a creative outlet. Natural for us, I suppose.

But seeing them raise her neck up like a car jack and edit her actual facial features left a sour taste in my mouth.

I think that was the point.

If you missed it, maybe you should watch the movie again.
