Is Shopping Cart More Dangerous than Terrorism?

By Alex in Baby & Kids on Aug 17, 2006 at 1:03 am

From the website:

Every day, parents put their children in shopping carts while they peruse the aisles of the grocery store, but they might be surprised to hear that’s not always a great idea.

According to a new study, an estimated 24,000 children were treated in hospitals for shopping cart-related injuries last year. While some are bumps are bruises, some of those injuries actually are fatal.

I can testify to pulling myself along the fish aisle while riding in a very large cart … And tipping it over. It was pretty damn scary and embarrassing. The store staff, thought so, anyway. My bad.

I worked in a grocery store when I was 16 and saw too many clueless parents trying to Darwin their kids by allowing them to stand in the cart. The sound of a child’s head hitting the floor is awful…and then the screaming afterward…

I’m sure the majority of injuries are from kids that are seated properly, but I get so irritated when I see kids standing up in the basket portion of the cart, or worse yet~standing on the END of the cart, so they can not only FALL but also get run over. How smart is that?
