Mysterious Urban “Tonybee” Sign.

More than 100 mysterious plaques, which read "TOyNBEE IDEA IN KUbricK’s 2001 RESURRECT DEAD ON PLANET JUPiTER", has been found in dozens of cities in the US and in some South American countries.

But what does it mean?

Some have called the markers the urban equivalent of crop circles. Others say they’re just quirky underground graffiti, some done by copycats.

No one has ever been caught or taken credit for this caper that dates back to at least the 1980s.

I’d find these everywhere in Philadelphia.
Other markers said other things, but the basic concept is the same. They’re often found in the middle of the crosswalk at an intersection. Repeated driving over the marker slowly embeds it into the asphalt. I’ve seen a few that were more than 8 years old… ones that I saw when I visited before moving to Philly 7 years ago.
