Pups as Drug Smuggling Mules.

Posted by Alex in Animal, Crime & Law on February 1, 2006 at 9:35 pm

Tired of using humans as mules, drug smugglers now use labrador retrievers:

In the case of the puppies found during the 2005 raid, the dogs’ bellies had been cut open, and heroin packets were stitched into their stomachs, Payne said. The pups, mostly purebred Labrador retrievers, were sewn back up and prepared for shipment to the United States, he added.

Kalashnikov Wished He'd Invented Lawnmower Instead.

Posted by Alex in Weapons & War on February 1, 2006 at 12:55 pm

Meet Mr. Mikhail Kalashnikov, the inventor of the AK-47 that bears his last name.

Mr Kalashnikov invented the AK-47 after being shot by German soldiers during World War II. It is the weapon of choice for gangsters and guerrillas all over the world.

A staggering 100 million AKs have been produced so far. Easy to use and maintain, they are said to be responsible for more deaths than the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Mr Kalashnikov recently said he wished he had invented the lawn-mower instead.

Theo Jansen's Animaris Rhinoceros Transport.

Posted by Alex in Arts & Crafts, Pictures on February 1, 2006 at 2:02 am

Theo makes amazing wind-powered sculptures.

The Animaris Rhinoceros Transport is a type of animal with a steel skeleton and a polyester skin. It looks as if there is a thick layer of sand coating the animal. It weighes 2. tons, but can be set into motion by one person. It stands 4.70 meters tall. Because of its height it catches enough wind to start moving.
