Reminding me of a joke I heard in my childhood about a young man that bet a friend that his erect penis was a long as the tail on his cat. The cat tail measured 12". The penis only 6.5", to which the owner exclaimed "You're doing it wrong, you have to measure from the a**hole."

My barber credits himself with saving the lives of 2 men during his career. Each had a mole above their hairline, and he noticed that they were changing over the course of a few haircuts. He urged them to get a proper diagnosis. "Son, you gotta get to a doctor or you're gonna die." He described one of the moles as being "runny" explaining: "That cancer has got to feed. It feeds and feeds and the waste it makes has nowhere to go. So it just kinds weeps out of it." (Read barber's quotes in the voice of Foghorn Leghorn for best effect.) Diagnosis and a haircut, two bits!

In college I went to Thanksgiving dinner at the home of a good friend. One of the family's signature dishes for the holiday was lime Jello with minced green olives. I picked at it while the rest of the folks tucked into it with gusto. I could not even finish my meager portion just to be polite. They all had seconds, quietly judging me.

My mom's family had an English version of this book. Mostly the same stories, but the illustrations were different and even more horrifying. There was one about a girl suffering from Pride, and she stuck her nose in the air for such a long period of time that her neck grew several feet. She cold no longer hold it aloft, and had to push it in front of her on a small cart. The Tale of the little girl setting herself on fire when she played with matches was especially grim. Unfortunately, my mom threw the book out because she thought it was too gruesome.
