Part of the problem here is that there are only so many teachers and only so many class slots. It would be great if high schools had summer classes anyone could take in their areas of interest, or if high school graduates could stay another year without charge in order to take vocational classes. Of course, that would cause funding problems, which is at the heart of all education dilemmas.

This post needs a joke or two.

Two scientists walk into a bar.

The first one says “I’ll have some H2O.” The second one says, “I’ll have some H2O too.”

The second scientist dies.

Two scientists walk into a bar.

The first scientist says ‘I’ll have a glass of H2O”

The second scientist says ‘I’ll have a glass of water too. Wh… why did you say H2O? Like, I know it’s the chemical formula for water and all, but it’s the end of the day and there’s really no need to intentionally over-complicate things like that in a situation outside of work”

The first scientist stares at his drink, angry that his assassination plan has failed.

Two scientists walk into a bar:

"I’ll have an H2O."

"I’ll have an H2O, too."

The bartender gives them both water because he is able to distinguish the boundary tones that dictate the grammatical function of homonyms in coda position as well as pragmatic context.

If I had a dog I didn't want in my possession, I would not tie it to a rail and leave, even if it wasn't my dog. I'd notify a station employee, call animal control, or take it to a shelter, depending on the circumstances.

I recommended plumbing to my kids because it's a job that will never be outsourced! Seriously, even those who don't go into the field should know something about how their homes and cars work.

The high school here is trying out some new vocational track programs. When I was growing up, it was only electrical and welding. One of my stepdaughters got on the EMT program and graduated with some kind of certification. They are introducing a nursing track next year, and my youngest is upset that she can't complete it in one year and get certified as a nurses' assistant before she graduates. But she'll still be able to get some college credit in classes she'd have to have for a nursing degree.

I think programs like these can be helpful as long as they are open to everyone, and don't start sorting and labeling kids into college track and not-college track. Those who will go to college should have an opportunity to explore different careers, and those who don't seem to be college material should not be discouraged from trying for it.

Hmm. The pictures seem to focus on the mirrored floor. Does she have a bed suspended under a landing and another bed attached to the ceiling? I'm not sure if I'm seeing this correctly. It's a mind-bender!

Then again, it could have been something as prosaic as a wine cellar or a root cellar. Or a safe room. Or storm shelter. It took me a while to think of the more mundane uses.

Todd talks about how this came about at Saving Country Music.

“My inspiration started when I heard Parmalee’s ‘Close Your Eyes’ several months ago,” says Sir Mashalot, aka Greg Todd who’s real life pursuit is as a Nashville songwriter. “During the chorus, I started realizing it had an almost identical melody/music bed as Blake Shelton’s ‘Sure Be Cool If You Did.’ So I imported them into Pro Tools, tweaked the key and tempo to line them up, and wahlah- turned out they really were the same song! So I overlapped them together and sent it out to a few friends, thinking it was an interesting exercise.”

“Then, while driving in my car over the next couple of weeks, I started hearing one song after another which I was certain would fit perfectly into the original mashup,” Sir Mashalot continues. “First ‘Chillin’ It,’ then ‘Drunk On You,’ then ‘This is How We Roll,’ and finally ‘Ready, Set, Roll.’ Each time I heard one, I would race home to plug it into the original pro tools session and yep, another perfect fit. Originally, I had all 6 songs overlapping, start to finish, but the more I listened to the lyrics, the more it occurred to me that it wasn’t just the music and melody that flowed together, but the actual lyrical content. So I presented myself with the challenge to create a singular, coherent story line using different snippets from the 6 songs. It took me about 2 weeks for that part of it. If I’m being honest, I think it still has tons of flaws (including some choppiness throughout), but my computer fried and so I finally just decided to get it out there the way it stands now.”
