A Real Flying TARDIS

(Video Link)

It might not actually be able to travel through time and spave, but to have a TARDIS that can at least take off into the air on its own is still one step closer to having our favorite blue spaceship become a reality.

Of course, the next step is to develop one that's not made from styrofoam and that can actually land without crashing so we can actually ride it in while it's flying. While we'd all like to get to fly through new galaxies and forward and backwards into time, we have to go one step at a time and getting to fly across London in a TARDIS is certainly a step toward the future.

Get Back to Nature With the Striped Light

If a tree branch falls in your living room, can it light up the room? It can if it's designer Floris Wubben's Striped light. This stunning piece of furniture is made from one single tree branch that has been carefully modified as little as possible to create a lovely lamp that really brings you back to nature. The shade is made from the bark of the tree and masterly reshaped into a spiral that shades the light bulb and the base of the lamp is nothing more than the branch split into three pieces and spaced apart to provide stability.

Check out more gorgeous pictures of Striped over at Homes and Hues. And if you like home furnishings, don't miss these other cool articles on the site:

It's like all the best fatty foods of the holidays all rolled into one rich, heavenly cheesecake.

Best of all, I Wash You Dry's recipe is so simple and easy that these little treats only take about 20 minutes so you can be enjoying your delicious desserts in no time.

The Pug Puppy Version of Elf

(Video Link)

We recently showed you what happens when a few adorable pug puppies take on the starring roles in Home Alone, but for all the youngsters out there (and Macaulay Culkin haters), this movie parody is a lot more relatable.

Plus, in this pug-filled take on Elf, we get to see the baby pug playing the adopted father of Buddy the elf, which is pretty much the cutest thing in the whole world -even if that scene is actually relatively short. And, Zooey Deschanel haters will be relieved to see her replacement is far, far cuter -and I'm sure even many of her fans will agree.

Understanding Satire Is Pretty Important In Politics

Whatever your alignment in the political spectrum, it's important to understand satire and to properly identify where you get your information and propaganda from. After all, you don't want to be one of those people ranting and raving about something you read in The Onion.

You also don't want to be the conservative National Liberty Foundation who found this image from Bioshock Infinite and decided to put it on their Facebook as though it was backing up their viewpoint. Unsurprisingly, when fans of the game got wind of this, they quickly started flocking to the group's Facebook page to start putting up sarcastic mocking comments pointing out how satirical and obviously racist the picture was intended to be (the entire goal of this artwork is to make you hate the villains in the game).

Since then, the group took down the post and has claimed they put it up on purpose as a promotion to inflame trolls to start advertising their group for them. While I doubt that was the original point, either way, it is true. Nothing gets you noticed more on the internet than a stupid political faux pas -especially when it includes a geeky pop culture reference.

A Surreal Grass-Covered House

Ever wish you could take a step into an M.C. Escher drawing? Well this house in Frohnleiten, Austria might just be the closest you could ever get. The artificial turf laid on the exterior makes it match the grassy landscape where it sits. There are staircases all over the building, some sideways, some backwards and practically all of them going nowhere. And the windows all feature a second window laid on its side that hangs off the side of the building.

Read more about the fantastic and chaotic building over at Homes and Hues.

Love dream homes? Then you'll love these other great houses we've covered as well:

Mac N' Cheese In A Pumpkin

Homemade baked macaroni and cheese is pretty much the most amazing thing in the world -especially with a lot of good cheeses and some good pork products (ham, sausage or bacon) mixed in. If you really want to up the ante though, try ditching the glass pan and use a pumpkin instead. The sweet flavor of the pumpkin is particularly suited to salty, smoky pork meats and the rich, creamy flavor of the cheese. You can find a recipe over at Serious Eats, but don't feel obligated to stick with their choice of cheeses and meats.

I've found tht the more cheeses you work into a mac and cheese, the better it tastes -try to get at least five in there if you can.

The Nativity Cats of Brooklyn

Away in a manger no crib for a cat...

Sisters Annette and Sue Amendola have been putting up a manger outside their home in Brooklyn for the past ten years or so, but over the last few years, the manger has become quite a neighborhood attraction and not because it's so accurate. Instead, people come to see the neighborhood stray cats that have taken over the scene and claimed it as their own -and do so every year.

The cats don't put up with the baby Jesus stealing their limelight either -when he's in the hay, they simply knock him out of the way and take over the most comfortable seat in the scene.

If you happen to live in New York, you can check it out for yourself. The great scene can be found at 344 Van Brunt Street.

The Floating Bookshelf

Like many designers, Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay of Raw Edges pull inspiration from the strangest places. For example, in their Bloom bookshelf, the team combined the style of a loom with the functionality of a bookshelf. Users adjust black rubber stoppers on each of the vertical cords to adjust the height of the books put on display. The books look like they are floating on a wire, bringing attention to the individual titles rather than the bookshelf itself.

You can read more about the bookshelf and see more cool pictures of it in use over at Homes and Hues. If you like this bookcase, you'll love some of these other home furnishings we've covered:

Awesome Examples of Anchorman Fan Art

There are a lot of sequels to good movies out right now, from The Hunger Games to The Hobbit, but of all the sequels ever made, I’ve never been so excited to see Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. And I’m not alone. Fans of the original have been anxiously waiting for almost ten years to get to see the follow up to Ron Burgundy’s life and there’s plenty of fan art out there to prove it. Here’s some of our favorite.

60 Percent of the Time…

What would happen if Brian Fantana actually worked with Sex Panther to promote their cologne? I’m pretty sure it would look exactly like this fantastic mock ad by Jason Ortiz.

People Know Me

You know what really impresses the ladies? Status. But if someone doesn’t actually know who you are, you might have to spell it out for them by explaining how many leather bound books you have and which fine woods your apartment smells like. Otherwise, how will she know you’re a big deal?

When in doubt, just look to this great poster by Oliver Fritsch Gomez.

I’m Ron Burgundy?

Somebody looks like he just enjoyed a nice glass of scotchy scotch scotch. Artist Patrick Brown set about making this tribute to Ron Burgundy as soon as he heard the official announcement that Anchorman 2 was going to be a reality.

News Team Assemble!

It’s one thing to do a caricature that twists someone’s natural features into a funny face, but a good caricature actually shows off the personality of the subject. That’s what makes this caricature by Nolan Harris truly stand out from the rest.

Only the Names, Locations and Events Have Been Changed

As a native San Diegian, I particularly love this poster by Joe Simpson as it accurately reflects the skyline of America’s Finest City. By the way, San Diegians in particular have a pretty strong attachment to Anchorman because it has so many jokes and references to the city.

A Beautifully Simple Solution to Covering Up An Ugly AC Unit

Air conditioning is great when it comes to comfort, but the exterior unit is a serious eyesore. But one couple, the creative minds behind House Pet, found a great way to make theirs significantly more attractive with a simple slatted wood cover. The lovely design is even easy to remove and store so it won't get messed up during the winter months.

You can find out more about how it was constructed over at our home design sister site, Homes and Hues. And don't miss these other great outdoor design ideas we have previously covered:

Tis The Season to Be Tacky

It must be something about the ugly Christmas sweaters, fruitcake and white elephant gifts that just makes people want to lose all their class during the holiday season. But while most of us are content to don a trashy sweater and drink a little too much eggnog, some people like to go all out and let their hair express their tacky holiday message for them.

If you're sick to death of the ugly sweater trend and are always looking for something bigger and uglier, you won't want to miss InventorSpot's great collection of absolutely hideous Christmas hairstyles

The Story of Gollum, The Musical

(Video Link)

Smeagol was once a normal hobbit, but whereas Frodo and Bilbo had strong wills and good character, his weak moral compass let the ring destroy him in no time. While Gollum likes to think that he is the victim of backstabbing and trickery, he really is an evil character with no real moral ground to stand on.

Even so, it's always fun to hear a story from the villian's point of view and when it's sung and drawn together like this video, it makes for great entertainment, so sit back, relax and enjoy the story of Gollum.

Heathers: The Musical Is Coming to Broadway Next Year

Well f- me gently with a chainsaw, this might just be the most nauseating thing I've heard all week; Heathers, the raunchy, over-the-top teen murder movie of the 80s is officially going to be made into a Broadway musical. Apparently it has already been running in Los Angeles and supposedly it's not all that bad. In fact, it even has some of the people behind Legally Blonde, Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical and Desperate Housewives

Even so, I don't know that I'd trust a Heathers without Winnona, Christian and Shannen in it. What about you guys?

Hipster Santa Was Into Christmas Before It Was Cool

All season, I've been getting annoyed by the Santa in the Petco commercials. He's just too well-groomed and polished and his casual clothes are almost creepy. That being said, at least he's not a hipster.

With the classic beard and mustache, it was only a matter of time before those hipsters appropriated Santa's style. Still, I'm surprised Mr. Claus would take on their terrible style.

In the upside, at least Hipster Claus would be above sweatshop labor and would go back to organic, homemade toys made by fair wage elf workers like those that were popular a hundred years or so ago.

You can get your hands on this great Hipster Claus card over at Etsy thanks to CandidCaleb.
