Odin at the Table

(YouTube link)

I think the original goal here was to create the illusion of a dog-headed person eating at the table with utensils and probably an overdubbed monolog. It turned out to be a lesson in how much dogs like peanut butter. And the videographer's laughter is better than any monolog they may have come up with! -via Metafilter

Video Game Manual or Religious Cult Literature?

Given an odd sentence out of context, can you determine whether it comes from the instructions for a video game or a fringe religion? You can probably score pretty well in this Lunchtime Quiz from mental_floss if you play video games or have read up on cults. I figured I would fail, as I have read very little of either, but I tried and scored only 38%. However, the lines you are given are hilariously nonsensical. Going through the answers to see their sources was the best part of the quiz. Link

Disco Ronan the Sea Lion

(YouTube link)

Ronan the sea lion is said to be the first non-human mammal to keep a musical beat without other cues. Sure, humans and birds can do it, but they also sing. Ronan was trained to do this, but once she got the hang of what the researchers wanted, she can synch her "dancing" to new songs with different beats. Link

27 Fantastic Photos of Cosplay At WonderCon 2013

While many people were heading the their family's house for Easter or Passover last weekend, plenty of nerds, including myself, skipped the holidays and instead celebrated pop culture at WonderCon, the smaller cousin of the San Diego ComicCon. While there was plenty to see and do at the convention, as usual, one of the highlights was the cosplay. Here are some of the highlights from this year's event.

As the convention was right next door to Disneyland, there was an even bigger proportion of kids compared to the average convention, which also meant even more adorable kids cosplaying. This little one was an AT-ST complete with a built-in sound effect from the film that played every time he took a step.

This youngster made quite an impressive Princess Leia, complete with a plush R2-D2 backpack and yarn braids.

Rainbow Brite was quite cute, but it was her friends Twink and Starlite that really took center stage. Twink was especially adorable as she was just so darn proud of those sparkly shoes.

Tiny Daryl was there, ready to take care of any roving zombies, including those in his own family.

Just like there are more kids than usual because Disneyland is next door, there are also more Disney character cosplays. This Belle was particularly adorable because she was so excited about everything going on at the event -especially her sonic screwdriver and the giant cow at one of the booths.

2013 Festival of Colors

The Utah Kirishnas Holi celebration, the Festival of Colors, took place this past weekend in Spanish Fork, Utah. Devin Supertramp produced a video of the highlights, including the simultaneous release of colored powder to welcome spring, captured by remote control helicopters equipped with cameras. The song is "Light It Up" by Scott & Brendo. The next Festival of Colors will be April 20th in Salt Lake City. -Thanks, David Oakes!

Moondog Over Alaska

Photo: Sebastian Saarloos

It was 10 degrees below zero, with 30 mph winds in the Alaskan wild, where the nearest town was 50 miles away, but Sebastian Saarloos came out alive and with this gorgeous souvenir: a magnificent photograph of a moondog.

In this image, the first quarter moon is flanked on both sides of a halo by "mock moons," also known as paraselenae or "moondogs." The apparitions are formed when moonlight is refracted through thin, plate-shaped ice crystals in cirrus clouds. They are easy to spot at an angle of 22 degrees from the moon when it is low in the sky.
