I'm 29 and since I was 4 my family has owned dogs. We've had 7 total. All dogs were fed one brand of dry bagged processed dog food such as IAMS, Eukanuba, and Science Diet. We always thought we had finicky eaters that were just picky when it came to meal time. We would force them to eat only one kind of dry food a day with maybe a couple treats here and there, or bread and/or rice, cheese, and turkey if they were sick. 4 dogs (a peekapoo, 2 japanese chins, and a chihuahua) did not live past the age of 10. This prompted me to really look in the garbage shit we'd been buying them all these years. After an easy switch to REAL food such as raw chicken hearts, gizzards, pumpkin puree, canned vegetables for dogs by Evangers, cottage cheese, and a bit of peanut butter, my Chiweenie has unlimited energy, less poop, needs to drink less, pees the same, and super shiny coat. She just turned 5 and I got this recipe from owners with a 14 year old Dashchund (after researching thoroughly for weeks on the internet). Her diet is SO much cheaper and now she has a variety. I feed her slightly more times a day at the same portion size appropriate for her 6lb size (1/3 cup per feeding). Science Diet was the worst possible stuff I could have given my dogs. They were often sick, diarrhea, vomiting in the middle of the night or morning, and lethargic. My chihuahua at only 8 developed neurological problems, the chins had enlarged hearts, and the peekapoo developed seizures. I realized dogs just weren't meant to eat some bullshit companies sell in bags. The vets are paid to promote it so they can write "#1 recommended" on the bag. The other two dogs are on a cooked diet and are allowed any healthy "scraps" they like. Peas, carrots, meat. I made sure to study the list of food dogs can never have. Just hoping this is read by one other person that could benefit from my info.
