Robin William’s Greatest Movie Moments

(YouTube link)

We often say, “You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone.” And that’s the case for Robin Williams, who died yesterday of an apparent suicide. From standup comic to TV alien to comedic movie star to dramatic actor, here’s a look at some of Williams’ most memorable roles. IMDb lists 102 acting credits, and his Wikipedia filmogrpahy lists 81 movies. There were so many, you probably couldn’t list them off the top of your head, so here’s a reminder. -via Digg

Use the Words You Have

UniverseProjects told us about his Russian wife trying to ask for a tape measure. He knew what she meant. Learning a different language is hard, and it takes years to learn enough words to express everything you need to express. Meanwhile, you do the best you can with the words you have. And we can usually figure out what you mean, but the effort can be amusing.

Everyone has an example, from all different languages. Here are some from the comments at imgur.

Tape measure: centimeter ribbon

Ice cubes: very cold water with corners

Shell: snail houses

Wrists: hand ankles

Napkin: face paper

Volcano: fire mountain (which turned out to be literally correct in Japanese)

Muffin: bread mushroom

Bathroom: ceramics department

Madejyalook took some of the funnier phrases and illustrated them.

Comic Sans?

No, sans comic! Get it? "Sans" comic.

Craig Hunter, the artist behind the webcomic Victims of Circumsolar, writes comics "conducted through a thick Glaswegian accent of cynicism and injustice, but with a hint of optimism." A groan-worthy pun fits in nicely.

Books with a Letter Missing

Take one letter away from a classic book title and change its entire meaning. That simple concept is funny on its own, but send it to Twitter member redpandarth™ (who loves a good pun) and he will photoshop it into a illustrated cover. Some of the best are gathered at Buzzfeed. Link

Fox and Golf Ball

(YouTube link)

A juvenile fox takes advantage of a golf ball coming his way. This hazard wasn't explained back at the club house. Still, watching him play was probably more fun than the game. -via Daily of the Day

Here be dragons, but the kitten doesn't know what they are about. He learned a little lesson, though: while you are focusing on the moving animal, be aware that there may also be one that's not moving …yet. -via Arbroath

Amazing Ocean Facts

Nat Geo TV published a series of comics from Dr. Byron Beekle containing interesting facts about the ocean and the creatures that live in it. As the series progressed, the "facts" became more personal and the artist progressively more unhinged, until the comic was suddenly cancelled -on April Fool's Day. You can read the entire series at the NatGeo Wild TV blog. Link -via Blame It On The Voices

You know this diner has been waiting for a long time to do this. The tip is below 15%, but maybe it was carry out or a buffet. I wonder if pie came with the dinner! Link
