Little Boy is Thankful for Prank Gift

(YouTube link)

A little boy opens a birthday gift and finds that it’s a wooden chopping board. Amazingly, he remarks that it is nice and he’ll use it. And he thanks his parents. Aww!

Then he gets another gift, in a shoebox. His mom mentions that he won’t have to glue his sneakers anymore… which leads us to believe that the family is far from wealthy. The boy thinks he is getting new sneakers and is happy about it -until he sees what’s really in the box. That’s when we who are watching go all verklempt. He’s a good boy. A part of the YouTube description is translated as “"Humility is synonymous with greatness.”

You can see a direct translation of the conversation from a YouTube commenter if you like. -via reddit

Chocolate and Lime Flavors: Toothpaste Just Jumped The Shark

Image Via

Toothpaste has always served one major purpose. To get your teeth clean. But over time, toothpaste companies have often tried odd ways to bring in new clients by offering up strange alternatives. Like this color changing toothpaste, for example. But I will go on record to say that I think maybe, just maybe, Crest just jumped the toothpaste shark. A quick glance at the above photo will tell you all you need to know.

Apparently, Crest thinks we need to be more "adventurous, inspired, and dynamic, and they think we are going to be able to achieve that by indulging in, what sound to be, terribly flavored toothpaste varieties. When your toothpaste is bottle is telling you that you need to be more adventurous, and proceeds to pour a minty chocolate paste onto your brush, something is wrong. If you need to be more adventurous, maybe just go for a nice hike?

They are also offering vanilla mint (which truthfully, doesn't sound that awful) and a lime mint combo that sounds like something out of my foodie nightmares. We give Crest points for being brave, but this feels like jumping the shark to me, and I didn't even think toothpaste could do that.

Paris Apartment Left Untouched for 70 Years is a Time Capsule from the Past

Before the outbreak of the World War II, a young woman fled Paris for the security of the countryside, never to return. She recently passed away at the ripe age of 91 and when her estate was being inventoried, experts found out that her property in Paris had been left untouched for 70 years:

The property was found near a church in the French capital's 9th arrondissement, between Pigalle red light district and Opera. Experts were tasked with drawing up an inventory of her possessions which included a painting by the 19th century Italian artist Giovanni Boldini.
One expert said it was like stumbling into the castle of Sleeping Beauty, where time had stood still since 1900. 'There was a smell of old dust,' said Olivier Choppin-Janvry, who made the discovery.

Inside was a treasure trove of art, furniture, and other knick-knacks - a time capsule from time gone by. The Daily Mail has more: Link

The Colorful Life of Antonia Larroux

If you can discern anything at all from her obituary, Antonia Larroux had a non-stop sense of humor. Her paid obituary ran in the New York Times Friday and Saturday, although Larroux lived in Mississippi.

Waffle House lost a loyal customer on April 30, 2013. Antonia W. "Toni" Larroux died after a battle with multiple illnesses: lupus, rickets, scurvy, kidney disease and feline leukemia. She had previously conquered polio as a child contributing to her unusually petite ankles and the nickname "polio legs" given to her by her ex-husband, Jean F. Larroux, Jr. It should not be difficult to imagine the multiple reasons for their divorce 35+ years ago. Two children resulted from that marriage: Hayden Hoffman and Jean F. Larroux, III. Due to multiple, anonymous Mother's Day cards which arrived each May, the children suspect there were other siblings but that has never been verified.

But that's just the beginning. Read about Larroux's four oddly-nicknamed sisters, her overdue library books, and the "questionable choice" of a clergyman for her funeral. She must have been a delightful woman. Link -via Bits and Pieces

Legal Chocolate Surprise Eggs Coming to the US

The sale of Kinder Eggs has been illegal in the U.S. since 1938. We Americans learned of these wonderful chocolate eggs with toys inside them from European friends, and just had to be jealous, unless we traveled abroad. But that will change very soon with the introduction of Choco Treasures!

But first, a history lesson. In 1938, the FDA passed The Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, which prohibits “non-nutritive (inedible) object inside a candy.” Furthermore, the toys in Kinder and other such surprise eggs are also only safe for kids 3 and up, which violates the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s requirement that all candy-encased toys be safe for children of all ages.

But Choco Treasures are different. First off, each of the three different editions of Choco Treasure has its own collection of all ages toys, from the original chocolate eggs to sports balls to even a Spider-man-inspired egg, licensed from Marvel. Second, each egg features a specially-designed capsule that separates the two halves of the chocolate so even a small child can see the there’s something on the inside.

Choco Treasures should be in major retailers before Easter. Find out more about them at FoodBeast. Link  -Thanks,  Dominique!

A Nightmare on Elm Street House Sold

Photo: Realtor.com

The price tag didn't scare away buyers. The home featured in the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street (which is actually on Genessee Avenue in West Hollywood, Los Angeles) has just been sold for $2.1 million:

Bearing a signature red door as the two-story did during its days as a Freddy Krueger haunt, the now-updated 1919 traditional-style house features a classic center hallway, an open plan kitchen and family room, wide-plank wood floors, three bedrooms, 3½ bathrooms and 2,700 square feet of living space.

There also are a guest house and a swimming pool on the property.

We'll wait to see if the new owners survive their first night at the house (sweet dreams!) ... Link - Thanks Tiffany!
