The comments associated with Pershing are propaganda, not history. The American performance in the Argonne Forest were mediocre at best, and only played a minor role in ending the war. The major contribution by the US was showing up. It made the end inevitable. American soldiers were keen, brave and effective. American generalship ranged from mediocre to poor. The managemnt of logistics was, perhaps, worse. They were learning, and this was their first campaign. They would have gotten much better had the fighting continued. The comments on the French are just nonsense. The French had their problems, but were very competent at this stage of the war. So were the British, and particularly the Canadian and Australian compnents of the British force. Let's get real here, folks, and do history, not national propaganda.
