The economic damage is made worse due to human development. Before, when a storm ravaged a natural plains, there were little damage to the population. But now that the area is jam-packed with houses, then of course the same storm would cause tremendous amount of damage.

Something similar happens to people who take volcanic rocks from Hawaii. They suffer ill fortune and are convinced that Pele has cursed them, so they mail back the purloined rocks. If you are convinced that something is cursed, you will notice evidence that "proves" it is cursed. People are more likely to notice bad things that happen on the 13th of the month, especially if it falls on a Friday. A team that hasn't won a championship in a long time, or can't seem to win, must be cursed. And so on.

That beast knows all the right mooooves and how to go hell for leather. The steaks were high in this incident, but Bossie was no cow-ard. The thief definitely has a beef with her, while the police are glad she decided to horn in. There, I think I've milked it for all it's worth.
