What Is It? game 320

It's once again time for our collaboration with the wonderfully entertaining What Is It? Blog. Do you know what the pictured item is? Can you make up something wonderfully wacky? That's what we're looking for: the funniest and most creative guesses. We will award t-shirts from the NeatoShop to two commenters who post the funniest or most outlandish use for this thing!

Place your guess in the comment section below. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many guesses as you'd like in separate comments. You have until Friday evening to come up with great guesses.

Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't include a selection, you forfeit the prize, see? May we suggest the Science T-Shirt, Funny T-Shirt and Artist-Designed T-Shirts?

See, you don't have to know the answer to win! And remember, there are more mystery items to figure out at the What Is It? Blog. Good luck!

Update: the pictured item is is a British grenadier's match case. It carried a slow burning piece of cord used to light grenades. The What Is It? blog has a lot more about it. The answers y’all came up with were much funnier. Patrick Scott called it a “Pope Francis Supersoaker Aspergillum. Rowdy crowds get a Holy Soaking!” That’s good for a t-shirt! And kantoboy put it succinctly, it is “The Tin Man's actual wish.” Ha! -that’s a winner, too! Thanks to everyone who played along, and thanks to the What Is It? Blog.

It's a sea anemone's underwater death machine. Don't make an enemy of an anemone. It will get you....

I think it's obvious what this is. This is a Cholula hot sauce dispenser for birds. You hang or clip this onto a tree and the birds enjoy a damn spicy treat. I'd imagine bird seed to be pretty bland therefore this is a must. The wooden cap was a dead give-away.

Aah! Aah! I finally know one! Maybe!
It's a grain weevil trap. You attach this to a long pole and thrust it into a load of wheat or corn (in a silo or in a train car) and let it sit for a day, then withdraw it. Weevils can crawl into the holes, and you can then count the number of weevils in a load of grain. There is a rather complex formula for this calculation that takes into account the temperature and relative humidity inside the grain pile, since weevils are more or less active depending on such factors, and so other instruments are attached by means of the clips.

At 7" long, this is "The Brass Crayon"...the thing all Unknown Objects must measure up to, or be measured with.
ex... "Say man, that thing on your shoe is about 5 holes long, according to the Brass Crayon...."

Whistle for a steam donkey. A few toots on this whistle lets the other loggers know that they need to get out of the way while logs are being yarded up to the landing.
