Elon Musk’s Mom On Raising Successful Kids

It is one thing to discover that your child is a genius. It is another thing to raise him/her. When raised properly, the genius kid will be equipped to do great things when he/she grows up. The question is, how do you do that? Here is what Maye Musk, the mother of Elon Musk, has to say.

“People often ask me how I have raised such successful kids,” she wrote in her 20019 book “A Woman Makes a Plan: Advice for a Lifetime of Adventure, Beauty, and Success,” as quoted by KLAS.
“I did it by letting them follow their interests,” she wrote. “If they prefer to start a business and you think it’s a good idea, support them. Teach your children good manners. But let them decide what they want.

Simple, yet effective!

Snap here for me too.Pretty sure that if my parents had $2,867,943, 908 in the bank when I was 16 I would have been able to start a very successful company.I mean, even that orange guy with the narcissus problem and stupid hair comb over, the so called 'real estate mogul', was not able to blow ALL his father's money, and the difference is with me you have a functioning brain, empathy, humour and wit.I may even have increased my father's fortune.

I would have to agree with the previous comment - not having to worry about finances has 99% to do with your chances of being successful at what ever you want to do. My parents were super awesome and let me go on my path however I wanted - but they also had no money so I had to work multiple jobs just to get by. This follows you your whole life for the most part if you don't have that initial funding from family money. It's not what you know it's who you know as they say.The other point I'd like to make is that apparently very early in the Musk kids' lives the mother and father divorced and all the kids were raised by the father - so I'm not exactly sure why this interview is with the mother? Elon was 8 yrs old when his mother no longer was raising him. I'm pretty sure the path to billionaire came sometime after that.

lmao does she mention economic stratification? "let them follow their interests" tell that to the starving kids in every country of the world who are much smarter than elon musk who will never be given a chance by anyone lmao HEY JUST FOLLOW YOUR INTERESTS AND HAVE GOOD MANNERS - NO SENSE IN HAVING A NUANCED CONVERSATION BEYOND THAT THO lmaoAlso: I've met hundreds of people with more money than me who had absolutely atrocious manners (and really weren't that smart). If you happen to bump into Maye Musk, let her know for me.
