Humanity has been trying to replace lost body parts for millennia. In recent years we have devised prosthetics that can come close to mimicking natural movement and function, but artificial limbs still can't feel the way natural ones can. Giving both prosthetics and robots tactile sensation and feedback abilities has been the goal of scientists for decades.
